Arizona Tax Credit Donations

In January 1998 the Arizona Legislature amended the Arizona tax code to allow for voluntary contributions to Arizona school students. Every Arizona tax filer that makes a such a voluntary contribution will receive a STATE TAX CREDIT for their contribution, up to a maximum $1000.00. An Arizona tax credit (as opposed to a tax deduction) is subtracted directly from the income tax owed to (or withheld by) the state of Arizona.

We recommend that all of our parents take advantage of this great opportunity to pay a portion of, or in some cases the full amount of, their child's tuition. We also appreciate donations to our school's general Scholarship Fund, which can be made by slecting Castlehill Country Day School as the "specific school" when making your donation. Below you can find answers to frequently asked questions about the program.

What is the state tax credit program?

The state offers all state tax payers a credit against their state tax liability for contributions to a school tuition organization. The credit is dollar for dollar up to $1,000 for married couples filing jointly and $500 for single tax payers.

Can I Send my Donation Directly to Castlehill?

No. Donors may not make donations to Schools directly, they must be sent first to qualified nonprofit groups set up to accept contributions. The donations are then appropriated to the student of School of the donor's choice. Castlehill uses two such nonprofit groups to accept donations: Institute for Better Education and Arizona Scholarship Foundation.

May I designate my contribution for a specific student?

Yes. However, there are some rules. Contributions may not be made for your own children, nor may parents "trade" scholarships by designating each other's children. Also, contributions for children in the Toddler through Pre-Kindergarten programs cannot use allocated funds until they reach at least Kindergarten. It is possible to specify students in the younger programs, but the funds will not become available until they reach Kindergarten.
